Corrosion inhibition performance of a structurally well-defined 1,2,3-triazole derivative on mild steel-hydrochloric acid interface

2021

Abstract In the present work, a new 1,4-disubstituted-1,2,3-triazole product, named 4-[1-(4-methoxy-phenyl)-1H-[1,2,3]triazol-4-ylmethyl]-morpholine (MPTM) was successfully synthesized under click chemistry regime. The structure of the new compound that has a rigid triazole moiety and a flexible morpholine ligand has been characterized using 1H NMR, 13C NMR, HRMS, and FTIR spectroscopy. Its inhibition performance for mild steel in acidic medium 1 M HCl has been studied by utilizing a combination of experimental, spectroscopic and computational methods. The electrochemical characterization was carried out by a gravimetric study, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and potentiodynam…

Kinetic, isotherm and thermodynamic studies of the adsorption of methylene blue dye onto agro-based cellulosic materials

2015

AbstractThe purpose of this work is to establish the optimal experimental conditions for the removal of methylene blue (MB-as model basic dye) from aqueous solution by adsorption onto four agro-based materials, namely, cedar sawdust, pine sawdust, wheat straw, and Provence cane Arundo donax. Results show that an increase in acidity or ionic strength of the medium has generally a negative effect on the discoloration yield. From the data of pH effect, there is no need to change the initial pH of the MB solution to be treated. Equilibrium was reached after 20−30 min of agitation when cedar sawdust, pine sawdust, and Provence cane are used as adsorbents. However, in the case of wheat straw, an …

Direct observation of alpha-lactalbumin, adsorption and incorporation into lipid membrane and formation of lipid/protein hybrid structures

2019

The interaction between proteins and membranes is of great interest in biomedical and biotechnological research for its implication in many functional and dysfunctional processes. We present an experimental study on the interaction between model membranes and alpha-lactalbumin (alpha-La). alpha-La is widely studied for both its biological function and its anti-tumoral properties. We use advanced fluorescence microscopy and spectroscopy techniques to characterize alpha-La-membrane mechanisms of interaction and alpha-La-induced modifications of membranes when insertion of partially disordered regions of protein chains in the lipid bilayer is favored. Moreover, using fluorescence lifetime imag…

Surface-modified 3D starch-based scaffold for improved endothelialization for bone tissue engineering

2009

Providing adequate vascularization is one of the main hurdles to the widespread clinical application of bone tissue engineering approaches. Due to their unique role in blood vessel formation, endothelial cells (EC) play a key role in the establishment of successful vascularization strategies. However, currently available polymeric materials do not generally support EC growth without coating with adhesive proteins. In this work we present argon plasma treatment as a suitable method to render the surface of a 3D starch-based scaffold compatible for ECs, this way obviating the need for protein pre-coating. To this end we studied the effect of plasma modification on surface properties, protein …

Upgrading landfill gas using a high pressure water absorption process

2014

Abstract The upgrading of landfill gas (methane 54.2 ± 2.0%, carbon dioxide 42.1 ± 2.4% and nitrogen 3.7 ± 1.2%) was studied with a pilot-scale high pressure water absorption system consisting of absorption, desorption and gas drying units. The gas was upgraded in two phases and with two absorption columns operating in sequence in pressures up to 180 bar, and with initial pressures of 8 and 10 bar. This type of high pressure process, where water is used for increasing the gas pressure, does not need a separate compression unit to produce the gas pressure required by gas vehicles. Product gas with a methane contents ranging from 83.0% to 92.1% was achieved with differing process parameters, …

Experimental and robust modeling approach for lead(II) uptake by alginate gel beads: influence of the ionic strength and medium composition.

2014

Abstract Systematic kinetic and equilibrium studies on the lead ions removal ability by Ca-alginate gel beads have been performed by varying several internal parameters, namely, number of gel beads, nature and composition of the ionic medium and pH, which allowed us to model a wastewater in order to closely reproduce the composition of a real sample. Moreover, the effects brought about the different ionic species present in the reacting medium have been evaluated. Differential Pulse Anodic Stripping Voltammetry (DP-ASV), has been systematically used to perform kinetic and equilibrium measurements over continuous time in a wide range of concentration. Kinetic and equilibrium data have been q…

Binding of a fluorescent dansylcadaverine-substance P analogue to negatively charged phospholipid membranes.

2000

Abstract We have investigated the binding of a new dansylcadaverine derivative of substance P (DNC-SP) with negatively charged small unilamellar vesicles composed of a mixture of phosphatidylcholine (PC) and either phosphatidylglycerol (PG) or phosphatidylserine (PS) using fluorescence spectroscopic techniques. The changes in fluorescence properties were used to obtain association isotherms at variable membrane negative charges and at different ionic strengths. The experimental association isotherms were analyzed using two binding approaches: (i) the Langmuir adsorption isotherm and the partition equilibrium model, that neglect the activity coefficients; and (ii) the partition equilibrium m…

Adsorptionseffekte als Fehlerquellen bei Lichtzerstreuungsmessungen

1956

Study and Modelling of the Vacuum Swing Adsorption (VSA) Process Employed in the Production of Oxygen

1999

An isothermal and non-equilibrium mathematical model was provided for the multi-component adsorption process. In addition, the software was developed for the VSA-based production of oxygen with the use of a CaX zeolite molecular sieve. The mathematical model and computer software were verified on the basis of experimental data. The study employed a test stand comprising two adsorption columns. The adsorption pressure P A = 150 and 135 kPa and desorption pressure P D = 20 kPa were adopted in the experiments. The tests produced oxygen with the purity of 90–94% O 2 (vol), at an efficiency of 55–73% and productivity of 570–850 kg O 2 per ton per day. The calculation results showed good consiste…

Study of Selective Adsorption of Gases by Calorimetry

2013

This chapter is devoted to the study of coadsorption of gases in nanoporous solids by using the differential calorimetry. In the first part, the thermodynamic principles of adsorption of gases are recalled. Some of them have already presented in chapter one. However a special attention has been paid here to the determination of the adsorption enthalpies and entropies and we focused on the selective adsorption of binary mixtures. Then the specific experimental technique based on the combination of differential calorimetry with manometry and gas phase chromatography or mass spectrometry is shown in details. In the last part, the thermodynamic concepts on coadsorption are illustrated with expe…
